You can usually get around it by setting the print quality to DRAFT I know that check printing on new inkjet printers from hp has issues because the way intuit sends the checks the hp thinks that it is a picture and the printer actually bounces light off the check forms and decides that it is not glossy enough to be photo paper and it rejects the printing.

It is a more robust program and much closer to the windows versions and it is also newer than the essentials as it was updated last spring to work with lion. They have tried to discontinue it twice and both times were forced to release it again because so many people did not like the essentials. They are also selling a new version of 2007.

I have never liked essentials and neither do a lot of mac quicken users.
